Parent FAQ

What are the benefits of joining Sigma Kappa?

Sigma Kappa offers each member endless opportunities to grow during their four years at Geneseo, allowing them to find a "home away from home" environment and become more confident. We value personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty, which come together to make Sigma Kappa more than just another club. Some workshops provided to members include Career Readiness, Self-Awareness and Development, Professional Social Media Presence, Self-Awareness and Development, and Personal Wellness and Self-Care.

Leadership Opportunities

Sigma Kappa provides each member opportunities for personal growth and development. Whether your daughter serves as a chapter officer, chair position, or class representative, they will gain skills and experiences that will prove invaluable throughout her lifetime. Some workshops provided to members include Career Readiness, Self-Awareness and Development, and Personal Wellness and Self-Care.

Academic Requirements

Each collegiate chapter sets minimum scholastic standards for its members to maintain. The standard of performance is set by the National Policy Handbook of Sigma Kappa. This reflects Sigma Kappa's belief that individual excellence develops chapter excellence. Sigma Kappa chapters are expected to provide leadership in academics as well as in other areas of campus life. To learn more about the academic policies of Sigma Kappa, consult section IV of the National Policy Handbook.

Lifetime Experience

After graduation, your daughter can remain involved in the organization for years to come. With over 165,000 members worldwide and 106 alumnae chapters in 34 states, there are endless networking opportunities. Our members are able to continue their personal and professional development with Sigma Kappa through social and philanthropic activities with other alumnae members.

How can parents get involved?

We invite parents to come to events such as Family Weekend, Mom's Day Brunch, and Dad's Day. Parents are always welcome to our philanthropy events as well, such as the Walk to End Alzheimer's every fall. We encourage parents to follow us on our social media accounts to stay updated on what's going on in the sorority, and so that they know of events that they may attend!
